Day 29: Isaiah 49:1-3, 6b
Listen to me, O coastlands; pay attention, you peoples from far away! The LORD called me before I was born; while I was in my mother’s womb he named me. He made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand, he hid me; he made me a polished arrow; in his quiver he hid me away. And he said to me, “You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will be glorified.” I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”
Week 6: Mission
Luke 9:1-6 says, “Then Jesus called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He said to them, ‘Take nothing for your journey: no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money—not even an extra tunic. Whatever house you enter, stay there, and leave from there. Wherever they do not welcome you, as you are leaving that town shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.’ So they departed and went through the villages, bringing the good news and curing diseases everywhere.” There was a time when the disciples were not ready and needed to be taught by Jesus. And then there was a time for them to be sent out on a mission: take this power, share the message, and act in my name. The Vision of Ministry of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church says, “The Cumberland Presbyterian Church seeks—to be the hands and feet of Christ in witness and service to the world and, above all, the Cumberland Presbyterian Church lives out the love of God to the glory of Jesus Christ.” We are to be a people with a mission, on a mission. So, let us recognize the opportunities God places before us to be of service to others. Find your mission this week!
