Day 23: Jonah 3:1-4
The word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time, saying, “Get up, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you.” So Jonah set out and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly large city, a three days’ walk across. Jonah began to go into the city, going a day’s walk. And he cried out, “Forty days more, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!”
Week 5: Message
John 3:16-18 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world might be saved through him. Those who believe in him are not condemned, but those who do not believe are condemned already because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” The crux of the Christian life is the message. We sometimes call it the gospel or the good news. But whatever we call it, it is still the message that Jesus Christ is our Lord and savior, and he has called us to share that message with anyone and everyone. Lent is the perfect time to reflect on what the gospel is to you, to form your own faith story in your own words, and to give witness to the mighty acts of God in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
A Path Through Lent is a daily devotional series that leads us from Ash Wednesday to Resurrection Sunday in preparation for Easter. Lent is a 40 day period before Easter that symbolizes the 40 days that Jesus was in the desert praying and fasting. (Matthew 4, Mark 1, Luke 4). Watch for theses daily devotionals to orient your day and your week as we prepare for resurrection!
